City-Building Together

Development Partners

Executing a project this big requires tight collaboration between strong partners. As Calgary Municipal Land Corporation delivers the Rivers District Master Plan, the relationships with development partners with a shared vision for the Culture + Entertainment District and who are invested in a world-class Calgary are integral to its success.

The City of Calgary is committed to economic recovery and resilience through, in part, their Centre City Plan and Downtown Strategy, including the revitalization of the east side of downtown. Along with their role as funding partners for infrastructure and community-building projects, The City formed the Calgary Municipal Land Corporation (CMLC) in 2007 to execute the Rivers District Community Revitalization Plan.

The Calgary Stampede’s long-term vision for Stampede Park as a year-round gathering place that embodies Calgary’s Community Spirit has guided their collaboration with CMLC in developing the master plan. This vision will be key to realizing the full potential of The Culture + Entertainment District.

Many projects on Stampede Park have been completed, like the expansion of the BMO Convention Centre and 17th Avenue Extension + Victoria Park/Stampede Station Rebuild. The Calgary Stampede continues to contribute to arts and culture through year-round programming at Sam Centre, Stampede Campus, ENMAX Park and the Nutrien Western Event Centre.

Many C+E initiatives advance CADA’s long-term strategy, Living a Creative Life, and many of the artists it supports will be an active part of the district’s fabric.

Calgary Economic Development plays a vital role in attracting business investment, fostering trade and growing the city’s workforce. With Place as a Key Pillar in their strategy, The C+E supports efforts in advancing Calgary as Canada’s most livable city to attract business and talent.

The Beltline Neighbourhoods Association (BNA) serves the neighbourhoods of West Connaught, Connaught Centre, Victoria Centre and east Victoria Park. The BNA was a contributing member of the working committee that helped guide the Rivers District Master Plan and whose community work helps support the recreational, cultural, social, athletic and educational activities of The C+E District residents.

The Victoria Park Business Improvement Area (BIA) represents more than 350 merchants and businesses in the community. They’ve been strong advocates for The C+E District since their role on the master plan working committee, as it fulfills their mandate to foster change and high-quality urban development for all.
